Metal elements in your body and your health
Another memorable session has come and gone this past weekend. I am beginning to wake up earlier and earlier on days when I have to go to class. I love driving out into the country and leaving the heavy city vibrations behind me. Early morning with cosmos blooming alongside the road is a clear signal that autumn is here; my favourite time of the year. It is still green but has this blanket of colour spread out over the lawns in parks and on the pavements as I drive. The bleak of winter has not yet set in and the colour palette is warmer than the colours of spring. Brighter too, somehow.
I am really enjoying the other ladies on the course too. All but one of the guys have dropped out. My teacher reckons something to do with men preferring the tried and tested of the back lobes of the brain and women using more of the frontal lobes which are more future focussed. But, hey, what do I know? Only that I feel very comfortable within this group of ladies all growing together at an accelerated pace towards adding to the greater good and making a positive difference in the futures of our lives here on earth.
Please note that I am not a doctor and that all I have learnt is many years of study by my wonderful teacher. I strive only to nudge you towards finding your own health solutions and making better choices.
You will see from the above diagram that earth nourishes metal (and metal depletes earth) so this is the next step. This metal system is comprised of the large intestine (colon), lungs and immune system. This system is nourished by the earth system – the stomach, pancreas and spleen. What I found amazing is that all? degenerative diseases can be traced back to the colon. I found it fascinating to find that a lot of our elbow, shoulder and neck pain lies on the stomach meridian and is also a result of problems in the colon. So are swollen lymph glands and some emotional and mental imbalances.
A poorly functioning colon results in many toxins being released into the body and will penetrate the lymphatic system, compromising healthy cellular function and causing conditions such as arthritis, lupus, ME, MS, cancer and other immune deficiency syndromes which cannot manifest with a properly functioning colon. As toxic matter seeps through a badly damaged colon lining it can cause issues such as lumbar vertebra degeneration, particularly from L1 to L5, pain in the hips, ovarian cysts, chronic urinary infections, carpal tunnel syndrome and many other problems. Breast lumps can appear as the body tries to get rid of toxins via the lymph drainage system in the armpits.
Lung problems develop as a result of colon problems like sinusitis, bronchitis, asthma and more. I would never have thought that the colon could be the cause of these problems. I lost a daughter of 18 months old due to chronic lung problems and she was on one course of antibiotics after another. I was quite emotional as I sat through this course and wished I had understood these things earlier. I know now that the many courses of antibiotics would have caused a breakdown of the immune system and candida in the colon, sending toxic waste through her little body and affecting the lungs. If I had understood the link between what she was eating (wheat, for example), I could have made better choices and given her the right nutrition. More enzymes and less medication. Having in-laws that fed my kids rubbish behind my back didn`t help. They were inundated with sweets and colddrinks, excitotoxins like colourants, preservatives, MSG and the likes; dairy products when they were battling with phlegm, biscuits, cakes… My mother-in-law gave whatever medication she thought appropriate – without consulting me – which included cough medicines and sinus medicines. This was on top of whatever other medication the doctor had prescribed. I remember my tears of frustration as the full impact usually hit the kids after the weekend when I was back home alone. The doctor that was treating her in the hospital where she eventually passed away, died a month after she did from cirrhosis of the liver as he was a full-blown alcoholic – hardly fit to have been allowed to practice. However, his condition was heavily disguised as alcoholics are masters of deception. I learnt then to start trusting my instincts (I never liked him) even though a doctor is very learned. Now I prefer eastern Medicine to Western for very good reasons.
I have taken myself off many things in the last few weeks, the biggest being wheat. I experienced some unpleasant side-effects. The constant phlegm is probably the worst as my body clears itself and detoxes. On the up-side I have fewer aches and pains and my left hip that was bugging me has all but recovered from morning stiffness and constant pain. My energy is returning and my weight is slowly coming down. Swollen ankles are a thing of the past. I know I have a way to go to completely get rid of the candida and allow the colon to heal. Hopefully, though, it will only improve with time.
The colon also affects the thyroid, so this is the next step for me – to recover enough to have my body take over the thyroid function again. I have what is called Sheehan`s Syndrome, so it will take a further mind shift for me to let go of the thyroid and hormones. For now, though, I am concentrating on the earth and metal systems until I learn more.
Candida is the yeast growth in the body that usually originates in the colon. Usually the body keeps this under control but when the body`s own beneficial bacteria is destroyed by drugs and chemicals it causes havoc. It causes bloating and blood sugar imbalances. The fermentation process caused by the yeast produces things like formaldehyde which causes aching muscles, headaches and extreme tiredness. The vapours of these “alcohol” byproducts rise, as vapours do, and cause light-headedness as alcohol would which affects concentration. The candida eats away at the mucous lining of the colon causing ulcers and allowing the candida to seep through and affect other organs. This results in all of the above symptoms already mentioned but also skin problems as the lungs and skin are connected, both being exposed to the environment (when you breathe).
If you are not healthy – suspect candida problems and do the following:
1. Wheat, rye, oats and barley products, dairy (in the beginning).
2. South African yoghurts. (Pimarcin, for example, is an antibiotic).
3. Avoid vinegar, alcohol, yeast, marmite and soya sauce
4. All bottled sauces.
5. Processed foods or preservatives.
6. MSG or hydrolyzed vegetable protein.
7. Sweets and sugars.
8. Cold and raw foods.
9. Anything that went into a microwave oven for any reason whatsoever.
1. Rice or millet
2. Most vegetables but not raw
3. Red meat (mutton is best) and free range chicken.
4. Sprouted seeds
5. Whey powder
6. Herbal teas: ginger, cloves, fennel, comfrey, yarrow, fenugreek.
7. Herbs in cooking: ginger, cloves, cinnamon, garlic, turmeric, rosemary, celery
8. Activated charcoal to absorb the toxins and gases. Your health shop will stock this.
Until next time – that sour fig plant (vygie/hotnotsvy) I gave you a picture of in the earth elements blog – will kill candida and heal the ulcers and perforations. There are many other beneficial herbs as well, but this one is so easy to come by. So go on – plant one and start using the juice of the leaves with a little honey.
